DK this time from 2000, this show became one half of a promo mix CD, given away while on a North American tour with Coldcut (the unnofficial first Solid Steel mix CD). Among the usual DK mix of old and new, are Yush 2K "Fade Away" (which made the short list for "Now listen"), The Orb "Little Fluffy Clouds" given an excellent remix by Danny Tenaglia, Big Dada Allstars with their Planet Rock homage "Showtime" and Little Richard on the breaks and beats. Session vom 14.03.2008

Leider haben wir diese Woche noch keine neue Session aus England bekommen, daher spielen wir die Session von letzter Woche noch einmal. Und in Zukunft hören wir Solid Steel immer 14 Tage nach der Erstausstrahlung hier bei FSK in Hamburg.

This week (14th March) on Solid Steel, we welcome DJ Craze, the turntablist champion with a mix promoting his recent Fabric mix CD. Tracks from Swizz Beats, Gaz, Blaqstarr and Freez showcase his skills to perfection. Joining him him in the first hour are Caspa & Rusko with a taste of their Fabric mix with tunes from Wonder, Benga & Coki and the men themselves. Hour 2 delves into the vaults unearths a Solid Steel show from November 1993. Periodically in the early to mid-nineties Coldcut would give up it's traditional format of talk and adverts and morph into a Sphinx for two hours. They were sprawling soundscapes inhabiting similar territory to the Orb and FSOL at the time. Unfortunately we have no track list, but this show takes in Jazz from Ricardo Marrero, Latino Hip Hop from Kid Frost, thunderstorms, Steve Reich, storytelling, The Irresistible Force, cicadas and the Orb on one of their remix excursions. As always more vintage Solid Steel at bosbos.net and not forgetting the podcasts of course!?

In dieser Woche hören wir in Stunde 1 einen Mix von Antec aus Berlin und in der zweiten Stunde wieder eine Vintage-Session, dieses Mal eine Retrospektive von Strictly Kev und Fourtet von der Solid Steel Live-Tour 2002, ausschliesslich mit Platten die auf dieser Tour gekauft wurden. Another dip into the vaults for hour two this time with PC from DJ Food from May 1999. Beginning with polyrhythmic techno and broken beat, through to Herbie Hancock and ambient world percussion, he quickly moves through downtempo beats, hip hop, jazz and classical strings. Check the technique as he teases the music with his Boss delay pedal, occasionally looping sections and jamming with it to form new sections. Geek chic at its best!
