In der heutigen TimeOut Sendung begrüßen wir als Studiogast Richard Weize. Seit 35 Jahren veröffentlicht Richard Weize auf seinem Wiederveröffentlichungs-Label Bear Family eine breite musikalische Palette, von Country über Blues, Rockabilly, Schlager, Rhythm & Blues, Jazz, Swing bis hin zu Kabarett und Jiddischer Musik. Ohne Rücksicht auf die kommerzielle Verwertbarkeit gibt es zu den verschiedensten Themen und Künstlern Wiederveröffentlichungen. Das alles in liebevoll gestalteten Alben und Mehrfach-CD-Boxen mit einem dicken Booklet oder einem Buch, z.B. ganz aktuell: Various Artists - Next Stop Is Vietnam 1961-2008, ein 13-CD-Schuber im LP-Format mit gebundenem 304-seitigem Buch, 334 Einzeltitel, Spieldauer: 16Std:49min.

Jeffrey Lee Pierce, Gründer, Sänger und Gitarrist der Band THE GUN CLUB, wurde am 27. Juni 1958 in Kalifornien geboren. Bevor er selbst Musik machte, war er Vorsitzender des BLONDIE-Fan-Clubs und arbeitete in Los Angeles als Musikjournalist für das Punk-Fanzine Slash. Seinen musikalischen Vorlieben entsprechend schrieb er neben Punk vorwiegend über 50er Jahre Rock-a-billy, 30er Jahre Blues und Reggae. 1979 gründete Jeffrey Lee Pierce zusammen mit Kid Congo Powers, selbst Vorsitzender des RAMONES-Fan-Clubs, die Band CREEPING RITUAL. Neben Jeffrey Lee Pierce (Gesang) und Kid Congo Powers (Gitarre) gehörten Brad Dunning (Drums) und Don Snowden (Bass) zur Anfangsformation. Dunning und Snowden verließen die Band und wurden 1980 durch zwei Mitglieder der LA-Punk Band THE BAGS, nämlich Terry Graham (Drums) und Rob Ritter (Bass), ersetzt. In den Anfangsjahren trat die Band lediglich in China-Restaurants – zu ihrem Repertoire gehörten auch kantonesische Volkslieder - oder in der Umgebung von Los Angeles im Vorprogramm von bereits bekannten LA-Punk Bands, wie z.B. X, auf. Wie es weiter geht erfahrt Ihr heute bei TimeOut, nur noch soviel: JLP starb am 31.März 1996 an den Folgen eines Schlaganfalls und - am 15. Januar 2010 wurde unter dem Titel "Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project – We Are Only Riders" eine Hommage an JLP veröffentlicht. Freunde und Bewunderer von Pierce wie z.B. Nick Cave, Cypress Grove, Mick Harvey, Lydia Lunch oder Deborah Harry haben einige seiner Songskizzen und Outtakes weiter entwickelt oder neu interpretiert.
